The O Mexico Quilt

The design for the quilt "O Mexico" represents a spirited journey from darkness into light. The traditional Mexican block is transformed and altered throughout the quilt finishing with a border motif taken from a traditional Mexican weaving pattern. There is a tribe of Indians in Mexico that are said to be the last tribe in North America that have maintained their pre- Columbian traditions. These are the Huichol Indians of the Sierra Madre Mountains. The Huichol believe that we are created from the elements of the natural world – fire, water, earth and sky. Each of us is a universe in miniature reflecting the spiritual and natural world. All answers are inside us – all is perfectly arranged. Finished Size: 84 x 93" |
