Why call it a retreat? I go full steam ahead on some of my finest handwork when I'm on vacation. I love to quilt: so what kind of a holiday would it be if I couldn't also bring my machine and my latest project with me?
A recent trip to Calabogie Ontario (near Ottawa) has shown me that it would be a lot of fun to get together with a select few other quilters on a quilter's retreat. I'm looking for just the right people, fun and industrious. If you think you have what it takes to do a quilt retreat, contact me.
Calabogie is a tiny community on the edge of a man-made lake, about an hour north of Ottawa. The quietude of the five-star Calabogie Lodge was delightful. There are endless daytrips to small towns that grew around textile mills. Perfect for quilters and their sense of binding themselves to a traditional past.
I have been to Calabogie now a couple of times taking advantage of off-season rates, and I have never been disappointed with the quiet, the opportunity to quilt undisturbed, and the inspiration of the beautiful countryside. If you have a similar area where you like to retreat to quilt, write to me and share the secret!
